September 15, 2018 JAFPE volunteers tour and shop at the Tukiji Wholesale Market for the last time.

The “inner market” controlled by the government of Tokyo is very much congested. Five persons would be the maximum to walk up and down the aisles together. Three JAFPE members, Ms. Shimizu, Messrs. Nakahama and Michikoshi, volunteered to guide potentially 15 participants divided in small site-tour teams. The volunteers’ mission? Show up at the gate at 9:00 AM sharp, a bit earlier than others; walk through the fish and vegetable markets to familiarize themselves with what’s inside; get back by 11:00 to start attending their team members, and take all participants safe and sound back to the entrance. In the morning session, Yutaka Kobayashi assisted the volunteers all the way through the stall shopping; with his almost “a chef’s level of knowledge” about which stall to hunt!
